The Chief Solano Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, is offering a $1000.00 college scholarship to a graduating senior of a Solano County high school.

Description:

Daughters of the American Revolution, or DAR, is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. The $1000 scholarship will be presented to the awardee at their school’s awards night and will be invited to a DAR meeting for special recognition.

Application Eligibility:

Scholarships are awarded and judged without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national or ethnic origin, or disability. All applicants meeting the eligibility requirements or criteria are welcome to apply.

1. Must be a high school senior attending a Solano County high school.
2. Must possess a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0.
3. Must plan to attend an accredited community college, college, or university in the United States.

Basis of Award: Academic performance, education and career goals, community service, passion presented in your essay.

Chapter projects and activities we are involved in include:

  • Give guidance and research help for prospective members' NSDAR applications.
  • Provide new member welcome packets and seminars.
  • Participation in the Fairfield 4th of July Parade
  • Wreaths Across America by donating wreaths and helping to lay wreaths at the graves of veterans buried at the Benicia Arsenal Cemetery 
  • USO collaboration including Breakfast & Books programs at Travis AFB and "Stockings for Kids"
  • Participation in the Fairfield Veterans Day Parade
  • Project Patriot involvement including sending cards to troops.
  • Volunteer for the North Bay Stand Down in Dixon
  • Monthly volunteers to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano County
  • Award scholarships to Solano County graduating high school seniors.
  • Participate in the NSDAR American History Contests and DAR Good Citizens Award at local schools.
  • Publish an annual yearbook.
  • Honor Vietnam veterans as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration
  • Reading names at the Vietnam War memorial traveling Wall
  • Attend Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Memorial 
  • Attend naturalization ceremonies and hand out flag codes and flag pins
  • Vietnam War Commemorative Partnership
